Hello and welcome to G.F-R, the newest child in the growing for-robots.com franchise. You're probably most familiar with our critically acclaimed Music/MP3 Blog, Music For Robots, and maybe less so with the less active cuisine blog Food For Robots. So why games? Well, all of the contributing writers here at for-robots.com are pretty geeky across many genres - we pride ourselves at knowing a little about a lot, rather than the opposite. Diversity of knowledge is a good thing, and these subdomain-based blogs give us a chance to focus on particular interests we wish to explore in depth.
Games have been a part of my life since I can remember. I hacked board games, wrote simple interactive programs on my old TI computer that would save to an analog tape recorder and play back on my black & white TV. I entered into serious negotiations with my parents and brought down their no-electronics-hippies-rule policy with the yardsale purchase of my first Atari 2600. And it's been all downhill from there. I've owned (and still own, in some form) every game system that's ever been on the US market since 1985 (handheld and console, not so much old Amiga/C64 etc.), and can hum the music to most of the games I've played. This is not to say that I'm an unconditional supporter of the gaming industry; I'm hyper-critical of most of the newly released software and hardware because of how dearly I adore the sweetest fruits of the industry, and I do think there is a line for how sex and violence are marketed to gamers (just as in movies, more boobs and blood don't make it better...). So with all that in mind, I'm proud to kick off the launch of Games! For Robots, a video gaming blog that will offer news, views and reviews of current gaming events and toys with a historically aware editorial point of view. Thanks for dropping by, and we hope you enjoy your time here!
