He's okay.

Forgive the terrifying image. New York Governor Elliot Spitzer is proposing a ban on violent or potentially "damaging" games to minors. Which I'm actually all for (since it won't affect me, and since parents are waaaaaaay irresponsible when it comes to supervising their kids gaming habits/choices/hours/etc). What makes me nervous is that such legislation will require a consensus to be reached on what is "decent" or not, which reeks of the type of fight that less rational beings would love to get a piece of. We'll see how this one unfolds.

In a similar and somewhat unexpected story, radio talk show host and former addict Rush Limbaugh rose to defend video games in the wake of the VT scandal. Here was the money shot:

"How many millions of people play video games, and how many millions of people have guns? If you start blaming the video games, you may as well demand video game control because it's the same thing when you start trying to blame guns for this. You have here a sick individual, an evil individual who committed a random act. But if you want to start blaming the video games, this guy was this or that, well, then you've gotta maybe talk about banning them because that's the same tack that's taken with guns. You got one guy who used a gun, that's it."

Wow. I'm actually quite moved by his comments. You go, Rush.
